    Ten Tips To Sleep Better Helping To Increase Energy and Improve Health.

    Read the Holy Bible or something spiritual.
    This should be a relaxing activity which should induce sleep. Do not read anything stimulating, such as a mystery or suspense novel, as this may have the opposite effect.

    Journaling
    If you often lay in bed with your mind racing, it might be helpful keep a journal and write down your thoughts before bed.

    Do not Change Your Bedtime

    You should go to bed, and wake up at the same time every day, even on the weekends. This will help your body to get into a sleep rhythm and make it easier to fall asleep and get up in the morning.

    Sleep with no lights and in complete darkness
    If there is even the tiniest bit of light in the room it can disrupt your circadian rhythm and your pineal gland’s production of melatonin and serotonin.

    Make sure you are regularly exercising
    Exercising for at least 30 minutes everyday can help you fall asleep and sleep better.? However, don’t exercise too close to bedtime or it may keep you awake.

    Avoid before-bed snacks, particularly sugars and processed foods
    This will raise blood sugar and inhibit sleep. Eat a high-protein snack a few hours before going to bed. This may provide the L-tryptophan necessary to produce serotonin and melatonin.

    Avoid consuming caffeine
    For some people, caffeine is not metabolized efficiently, them to feel the effects long after consuming it. So an afternoon cup of coffee (or even tea) will keep some people from falling asleep.

    Avoid alcohol

    Although alcohol will make people drowsy, the effect is short lived and people will often wake up several hours later, unable to fall back asleep. Alcohol will also keep you from getting into the deeper stages of sleep, where your body does most of its healing.

    Take a hot shower, bath or sauna before bed
    When body temperature is raised in the late evening, it will fall at bedtime, helping you to sleep better.

    Use Your Bed For Sleeping Only
    If you are used to watching TV or doing work in bed, you may find it harder to relax and to think of the bed as a place to sleep.

    The quantity and quality of your sleep could make all the difference in keeping your health strong and giving you the energy to accomplish your work. We all have too much to do, so take time out and recharge yourself.

  • Diabetes—is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin, or does not properly respond to insulin a hormone produced in the pancreas.


    Insulin enables cells to absorb glucose in order to turn it into energy. Any disturbance in this causes glucose to accumulate in the blood (hyperglycemia), leading to various complications.


    TYPES OF DIABETES:


    1) Type 1 diabetes


    Type 1 Diabetes is autoimmune disease. It is result of destruction of beta cells due to aggressive nature of cells present in the body.





    2) Type 2 diabetes


    Type 2 Diabetes is also called non insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) or adult-onset diabetes. It occurs when the body produces enough insulin but cannot utilize it effectively. This type of diabetes usually develops in middle age. more common among older; obese; have a family history of diabetes; have had gestational diabetes.


    3) Gestational diabetes:


    It is a form of diabetes which affects pregnant women. Hormones involved in development of placenta, also blocks the action of the mother’s insulin in her body. This is called insulin resistance. During pregnancy a mother may need up to three times more insulin for glucose to leave the blood and transform to energy. When body is not able to use insulin due to insulin resistance it develops into Gestational Diabetes. Glucose builds up in the blood to high level, it is called hyperglycemia.


    Causes of Diabetes


    • Hereditary or Inherited Traits : It depends upon closeness of blood relationship as mother is diabetic, the risk is 2 to 3%, father is diabetic, the risk is more than the previous case and if both the parents are diabetic, the child has much greater risk for diabetes.


    • Age : Increased age is a factor which gives more possibility than in younger age.


    • Poor Diet (Malnutrition Related Diabetes) : low protein and fiber intake, high intake of refined products are the expected reasons for developing diabetes.


    • Obesity and Fat Distribution : Being overweight means increased insulin resistance.


    • Sedentary Lifestyle


    • Stress : physical injury or emotional disturbance is the initial cause of the disease..


    • Drug induced: Clozapine, olanzapine , risperidone , quetiapine and ziprasidone induce this lethal disease.


    • Infection : strephylococci that infects pancreas.


    • Sex : commonly seen in elderly especially males but, strongly in women


    • Hypertension : there is direct relation between high systolic pressure and diabetes.


    • Serum lipids and lipoproteins : High triglyceride and cholesterol level in the blood is related to high blood sugars.


    SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:


    Diabetes Type 1:


    • Primary stage : nausea and vomiting.


    • Later stage : ketoacidosis, fast weight loss


    • Advanced stage : Coma and death.





    Diabetes Type 2:


    • Increased fatigue


    • Polydipsia


    • Polyuria


    • Polyphegia


    • Weight flactuation


    • Blurry vision


    • Irritability


    • Infections


    • Poor wound healing


    Complications


    • Diabetic retinopathy: pain in the eyes and may even result in loss of vision.


    • Diabetic nephropathy: kidney disease shows symptoms of swelling (edema) in the feet and legs. blood pressure also increases.


    • Diabetic neuropathy: Tingling, burning, numbness, tightness, shooting or stabbing pain in the hands, feet or other parts of body


    • Diabetic foot: Any injury leads to gangrene if neglected


    • Cardiac complaints: Chest pain ,shortness of breath, dizziness ,light headache, shoulder or stomach pain, fast heartbeat, heart attack or stroke


    • Others: scanty or profuse sweating, difficulty of sensing when your bladder is full, increased sexual problems, weakness.


    Prevention & management:


    • Control weight to normal or near-normal levels by eating a healthy low-fat, high-fiber diet.


    • Regular exercise is crucial to the prevention of type 2 diabetes.


    • Keep alcohol consumption low.


    • Quit smoking.


    • If you have high blood fat levels (such as high cholesterol) or high blood pressure, take your medication as directed


    • Lifestyle modification


    • If you already have diabetes, your focus should be on preventing the complications


    • Tight glucose control.


    • Maintain a healthy weight


    • Increase physical activity levels


    • Drink an adequate amount of water and avoid taking too much salt.


    • The skin should be taken care of; avoid sores and cracks that can become severely infected.


    • Brush and floss the teeth every day to prevent gum disease.


    • The feet should be washed and examined daily, looking for small cuts, sores, or blisters that may cause

    Lacerations: Healing of Wounds through Wound Be Gone


    The term laceration implies a torn or jagged wound. Lacerations tend to be caused by blunt trauma (such as a blow, fall, or collision). Cuts and lacerations are terms for the same condition. The term laceration is commonly misused in reference to incisions.





    A laceration may be large or small, if the laceration is minor then minimal bleeding could occur, but in some cases it may bleed a lot. Minor lacerations cause less pain and no numbness and tingling at the site. If a laceration bleeds a great deal with no sign of stopping, it needs to be closed with stitches. If any bone and tendons could be seen then the wound has to be stitched. Stitches may also be needed to keep the wound from becoming infected and to reduce the scarring that may develop after it has healed. Old wounds are not possible to be stitched easily. There are some kinds of laceration that may heal without the need of stitches. The healing time for a laceration depends on its location. For instance, a cut on the leg usually heals more slowly than one on the head. Stitches are usually removed within 5 days to 2 weeks. The cut will continue to heal for up to 6 months.





    Minor lacerations could be treated by following steps:





    • The site should be cleaned well with an antibacterial soap and warm water.


    • An effective topical gel or ointment should be used


    • The laceration site should be covered with sterile gauze or a Band-Aid.


    The Band-Aid should be changed when needed or when soiled. The wound


    underneath should be cleaned and the ointment should be applied again.


    • If red streaks or drainage appears around the site, then medical help should


    be taken.





    But in some cases the laceration is not a minor one and stitches are required. In this situation the wound care is different, which is as follows:





    • The wound site should be kept clean.


    • An antibiotic ointment should be used if prescribed by the doctor.


    • The site should be elevated as this would prevent or decrease pain, swelling


    and throbbing.


    • Medications to reduce pain can be used.


    • Return to the doctor to get the stitches removed within 7-10 days or when asked.


    • Complete monitoring of the wound should be kept, if any redness or drainage


    is seen, then medical attention should be taken.


    • Once the stitches are removed then Vitamin E can be used on the wound site, as


    it helps in reducing the scar.

    Using Different Formatting In The Same Cell In Microsoft Excel

    When changing the appearance of text within an Excel worksheet, you have the choice of working on the entire cell or at the text level. To work at the cell level you simply highlight one or more cells and choose your formats. The formats that you choose will then apply to all text within the cell or cells.


    For example, to change the font size of your data in Microsoft Excel, you can of course use the drop-down menu next to the font name and choose one of the preset sizes. Another way of changing the size is to use the Grow Fond and Shrink Font buttons located on the right of the font size. These two buttons simply take you up and down the same preset sizes available on the preset size drop-down. You can also use the cursor keys on your keyboard to move through different sizes. Yet another option is to enter a particular size then press the enter key. When doing so, you are permitted to enter decimals, such as 10.5.


    In a similar way, when you wish to choose a font, you can highlight the current name and begin to type the name of font you have in mind, for example Times new Roman. Once you have typed enough of the name to avoid ambiguity, the font name will be displayed and you simply press the Enter key.


    Colour can be applied in the same two ways in your worksheets, either as a background to the cell or to the text inside the cell. Since background colour applies to the cell itself, it can’t be applied at the text level. With the introduction of Themes in Excel 2007, Microsoft have made it very easy to come up with colour combinations which look good together.


    If you wish to work at the text level, you need to be in Edit mode. You can access Edit mode in two ways: the first is to double-click on any cell; the second is to click once on the cell and then click anywhere in the formula bar. You can know when you’re in Edit mode by the presence of the Cancel and Enter buttons on the left of the formula bar.


    When working in Edit mode, it becomes possible to highlight individual characters and change their attributes. For example, say a cell contains the text "Google"; you could highlight each letter individually and change it to the colour used in the Google logo.


    This facility of having different formats within the same cell is very useful for headings. It is not so useful for the rest of the data in your worksheets since it slows down data entry and makes editing difficult.

    One of the least efficient ways to heat a home is with a fireplace. It is difficult to control the size of the fire and the heat that is lost up the chimney. In order to make that fireplace more efficient, consider installing glass Fireplace Screens.

    The glass fireplace screens serve the same purpose as any other fireplace screen. They keep the popping embers from escaping from the firebox and starting a fire in your home. The glass screens have many advantages which are not to be found in other open screens.

When you add a glass fireplace screen, the closed doors help to stop the heat loss or gain through the fireplace. In addition, they help to keep the smoky smell out of your home during the summer and when a fire is burning.

    At night with a traditional fireplace screen, you must allow the fire to die down before heading to bed. With the glass fireplace screen, you can leave the fire burning with the doors closed and the fireplace will continue to warm your home as the fire dies down.

    Close the damper on the screen and the flames will die quickly and glowing embers are all that are left in your fireplace. Those embers may burn and give off heat all night long. In the morning you can easily start the fire by adding dry kindling to get the flames going again. Thus, you will be ready for another day of more efficient heating using your fireplace.

    Ninja Disguises and Costumes

    To most people the thought of a ninja conjures up images of a black stealthy figure in the shadows with a sword and throwing stars. This is a very popular portrayal in the media and Hollywood with movies like American Ninja, Ninja, and even Batman. However, there is no written evidence documenting the use of a black ninja uniform (shinobi shozoku) being used. Nevertheless, the ninja would use any clothing that would help them in accomplishing their missions. Ninjas were experts at adapting to their environments and it was no different when they were traveling.





    Although most recognized in their black ninja uniform (shinobi shozoku) one skill that is overlooked is that ability for the ninja to blend in with everyday people and their surroundings. The ninja would keep from doing anything that might catch the attention of their adversaries or targets. They would even go so far as to talk with the local dialect so someone listening would believe they were local.


    Some of the more notable disguises of the ninja are:





    Komuso (Zen Priest)


    This disguise uses a large round hat that allows the ninja to hide their face.





    Saruwaka (”Noh” Dancer)


    Dancers (noh) where often invited into the enemies camps for entertainment. This would give the ninja an opportunity for exploring enemy castles.





    Shukke (Mendicant Monk)


    This allowed the ninja to collect information while asking for blessings (alms).





    Yamabusi (Mountain Priest)


    The last person you would suspect is the mendicant monk.





    Akindo (A Merchant)


    This disguise would give the ninja access to collect information while selling goods.





    Shinobi-monomi (Wood Gatherer)


    This allowed the ninja to discover and acquire the news about an enemy’s territory





    Many times the uniforms they wore were reversible and when worn inside out it would give the appearance of everyday clothing. The uniforms also had numerous hidden pouches to not only hold weapons, but also items that would come in handy while in disguise such as makeup.





    Common everyday clothing was called yamabushi and made traveling easier. Since traveling in yamabushi they could travel freely between all the political boundaries. This is something they could not do if anyone knew they were ninjas on a mission. Robes were popular and fit loosely around the body to conceal any weapons they were carrying such as a tanto.





    The various ninja disguises also gave rise to the numerous weapons ninjas where known to use. One bizarre weapon is the steel fan, which would look inconspicuous to an onlooker but could quickly turn fatal for the ninja targets. Another adapted weapon is known as the Sai. This tool was used by farmers in the fields to help in planting crops. The middle long prong would be punched into the ground until the small out prong touched the dirt. The seed was then thrown into the deep hole and covered. The farmers would plunge the Sai into the dirt where the smaller prong had made a mark. So, the ninja used this fact and pass their weapon off as a common farming tool when it was found.

    Soccer Coaches Get Rid of the Laps

    If you can understand why running laps in youth soccer is huge waste of time you will not only be a better coach, but a better all around youth soccer trainer. ; Last year I watched a youth soccer practice and by the time I got home I was still in shock. Most of my thoughts were simply of renaming the coach to “old school” and I was also a bit angry. I wasn’t angry at the coach. He was doing what he thought was right and what had been taught to him. I was angry at the director of coaching for this soccer club for not watching his coaches, correcting them and bringing them up to speed on the best practices / methods for youth soccer player development.


    Running “laps” in youth soccer is common and done for many reasons. Some coaches use laps thinking it will condition their players. Others use laps for warm ups, while others often use them as punitive exercises for players that are misbehaving. Unfortunately all of these reasons are wrong and slightly misguided.


    First look at conditioning.


    Youth soccer players and even competitive players don’t run laps the entire soccer match. Most of their conditioning needs should be geared towards how they play. Short to medium bursts of extreme speed followed by a slow jog or walk is what they do in a game. This is what we should condition them for. High intensity 1 v 1 or 2 v 2 “wave games” are the best for conditioning players and combine soccer skills with conditioning. If you want to have them do sprints, put a soccer ball on their feet. The players should have a ball on their feet with every form of exercise. You can increase the number of touches by over 300 each practice simply by adding a soccer ball. Do this over 20 practices and you have increased the number of touches a season by over 6000 per season. By the way, that is more touches than most collegiate players will get during games their entire playing careers.


    Warm ups:


    With such little time available to train youth soccer players, EVERY minute of your practice should involve some form of SOCCER training. Being prepared really helps with proper warm ups. The warm up section of your practice should include not only ball touches, but player movement as well. Have a series of drill stations set up that keep all players moving and not waiting in line. Focus on dribbling, moves and passing. Instead of your players standing in a circle passing the ball, make them move. Have them touch the ball to the middle of the circle, pass and replace the player they just passed to. Then instead of just one ball, add two or three balls so that it becomes “mayhem” in the circle. Eyes will be watching every direction and players can’t stand still for more than 5 seconds. After 5 – 10 minutes all will be breathing hard and be tired. Now is the time for a good stretch.


    Punitive exercise:


    Youth players should NEVER be told to run laps or perform physical exercises for misbehaving or breaking rules. This is the time for a CALM, non-embarrassing talk about the behavior. We should let the player know that their behavior is taking away from other players’ training and it should be corrected. If the behavior continues after the talk then players should sit out on more fun activities like scrimmages and small sided games. Let the player know you’re not angry, but the bad behavior needs to have some repercussions. Teaching a soccer player that running is a “negative” is a huge mistake.


    Last month I worked with 2 former division one soccer players. I had them run through what I call the “Play and Puke” 1 v 1 session. A high intensity 1 v 1 session, it is extremely taxing on the players but is a TON of fun for them. After the session I asked them a simple question. “What is easier, running laps or playing this game?” The answer was unanimous, “Running laps is a piece of cake compared to that game.” Then I asked another question. “Which is better SOCCER training?” Again they all agreed that they used GAME skills in the game while at the same time working muscles they seldom used.


    My point is simple. Running laps shows lack of creativity and understanding in a soccer coach. This is not just my theory but also promoted throughout the world of youth soccer. We often hear the phrase, “Remove the three L’s from your practices, Lines, Lectures and Laps.” Very good advice.


    While creating www.BlastTheBall.com and www.SoccerU.com we tried to get this point across to coaches, parents and players. Conditioning only lasts a few weeks after it stops. Once it stops it is gone forever. Technical training and skill training gets ingrained into the soccer player’s mind and body and becomes a part of them. It will stay there forever.


    How to set up the game:


    Field size will vary but should be around 40 yards long and 20 yards wide.


    Small goals or two cones are placed on each end.


    Players are NOT allowed to shoot until they are within 5 yards of the goal.


    3 to 4 players stand ready with a ball on their feet on EACH end. They MUST be ready with a ball on their feet.


    The first player receives a pass from an opponent at the other end of a small field. They play 1 v 1 challenge until the ball crosses the end line, whether the ball goes in the goal or not. When the ball crosses the end line the player that kicked the ball across the line must now recover quickly as another player waiting with a ball on the same end is taking off trying to score. The former shooter is now the new defender and must recover quickly. That 1 v 1 match ends with a player shooting and then the next player, waiting with a ball, charges off trying to score. Again the player that shot the ball must recover to defend.


    This training can now be done with in a 2 v 2 format as well. Encourage overlapping and diagonal runs when working this game in a 2 v 2 or 3 v 3 setting. Help offensive players understand that having them both “following the ball” doesn’t open up space or create fast breaking attacks.


    High intensity “soccer training” creates well conditioned and skilled soccer players. Laps create good runners. Make sure you know who you’re training.
